More Hawks Take Flight For NFL
By Mathew Gogerty
Another year has passed, and a new flock of Hawkeyes are off to showcase their skills in the NFL. As the 2012 NFL Draft concluded Saturday afternoon a total of 6 Hawkeye players officially heard or saw their name called and will continue their football careers in the NFL.
In what was a relatively mediocre season for Iowa in 2011, this certainly puts a little brighter perspective on things. I doubt many Hawk fans really thought we’d see this many Iowa players selected this year, and if it weren’t for a pectoral injury to Marcus Zusevics before the draft we most certainly would have seen 7 players drafted instead of 6.
All is not lost for those who didn’t see their name called during the draft, as now marks the beginning of the free agency signing period for the undrafted players. I’m certain we’ll have a number of additional Hawkeyes sign as free agents in the coming weeks and look forward to seeing where they end up.
Here is a rundown of the newest Hawkeyes in the NFL.
Round 1
#23 overall- (OT) Riley Reiff (Detroit Lions)
Round 4
#132 overall- (DT) Mike Daniels (Green Bay Packers)
Round 5
#141 overall- (OG) Adam Gettis (Washington Redskins)
#156 overall- (DB) Shaun Prater (Cincinnati Bengals)
Round 6
#194 overall- (WR) Marvin McNutt (Philadelphia Eagles)
Round 7
#217 overall- (DB) Jordan Bernstine (Washington Redskins)
Congratulations Hawkeyes!
